ABC 7's Hosea Sanders Discloses His Prostate Cancer; Announces Medical Leave Of Absence

WLS-TV/ABC 7 news anchor and reporter Hosea Sanders announced Tuesday night that he has been diagnosed with prostate cancer. He will undergo surgery to remove the cancer on Wednesday and be off from work recovering from the surgery for an undisclosed amount of time.

NBC 5 Officially Names Siafa Lewis As Lead Sports Anchor

After being the interim lead sports anchor for nearly a year, WMAQ-TV/NBC 5 finally made it official this morning, naming Siafa Lewis as the station's top sports anchor. Lewis' promotion is effective immediately. As he has been doing, Lewis will anchor the sports reports on WMAQ-TV's 5:00pm, 6:00pm, and 10:00pm weekday newscasts.

Chicago Fire MLS Games Return To CSN Chicago, Adds Weekly Fire Show With Fred Huebner

For the third year in a row, the Chicago Fire will have most of their MLS games broadcast on CSN Chicago. This year, even more games will be shown locally, as well as four Spanish-language simulcasts, four "Chicago Fire All Access" episodes, and a new "Fire Weekly" program debuting next week.

ABC 7 Suspends Mark Giangreco Over Political Tweet

Management at WLS-TV/ABC 7 and ABC Television are unhappy with veteran sports anchor Mark Giangreco after he was the source of embarrassment this week over a political comment he made on his personal Twitter account Sunday afternoon. For breaking company rules about staying clear of appearances of political partisanship, the company has given Giangreco a suspension.

CSN & DePaul University Hosting 'Women In Sports Symposium,' Featuring 'Tomboy' Preview Screening

As part of CSN Chicago's multi-platform "Tomboy" project (as previously reported here), the station will be presenting a live symposium event next week. This speaking event will feature Chicago broadcasters, athletes, and sports executives.

WRXQ's Elwood & WIIL Honored With National Rock Radio Awards

As reported here back in November, the hard rock website RadioContraband.com released the nominees in its 2016 Rock Radio Awards. Far north suburban WIIL-FM/95WIIL Rock was recognized in a few categories. South suburban WRXQ-FM/Q-Rock 100.7, an Alpha Media-owned sister-station to WIIL-FM, also picked up a pair of nominations. At the 2017 Rock Radio Convention in Las Vegas late last week, both WIIL-FM and WRXQ-FM walked away winners.

CSN To Broadcast New NBC Sports-Produced Documentary 'Tomboy'

NBC Sports Regional Networks has created a 60-minute documentary that seeks to elevate the conversation about gender in sports. Entitled "Tomboy" (stylized as "TOMBOY" in all bold capital letters and then struck-through), the film features interviews with prominent female athletes, broadcasters, and sports executives. Along with the documentary, other multi-platform projects are connected with the movie to further ignite conversations about gender roles and perspectives in and outside of sports.

Marty Zivin's Zecom Radio To Continue Via Steven Leventhal's SRN Broadcasting

When Chicago radio veteran Marty Zivin passed away in January, it seemed that Zecom Radio, his trailblazing Internet radio network that he operated out his suburban home studio, would fade away. However, a friend of Zivin's and a fellow Chicagoland-based Internet radio operator, Steven Leventhal has been asked by the Zivin family to carry on Zecom Radio. Leventhal's own SRN Broadcasting and InternetFM.com website have relaunched Zivin's two Zecom Radio stations, The Choice and Gemz.

For two dozen years, David Kaplan has been a Chicago sports media star, hosting top-rated shows on both radio and television, as well as authoring a column in the Chicago Tribune's sports section. He also has proudly been an unabashed Chicago Cubs fan. Using his deep sports knowledge, his love of Chicago's north side baseball team, his sports connections, and his writing skills, Kaplan has authored a new book on baseball's hottest team, the world champion Chicago Cubs.

Chicago White Sox 2017 Regular Season Broadcast Schedule Revealed

The Chicago White Sox have announced their broadcast schedule for the upcoming 2017 regular season. Games will be seen on local television on CSN Chicago and WGN-TV, seen on national television on Fox, and heard on the radio locally on WLS-AM in English and on WRTO-AM in Spanish.

Chicago Cubs 2017 Regular Season Broadcast Schedule Revealed

The Chicago Cubs revealed their 2017 regular season broadcast schedule on Thursday afternoon. As is always the case for one of the most popular teams in the league, the Chicago Cubs television and radio broadcasts for all 162 games will be easily available in the Chicagoland area, although the television schedule, with games appearing on numerous different networks and channels, could be difficult to keep track of.

WLS-FM Brings Back Danny Lake For Weekends

Almost exactly one year after WLS-FM 94.7 released longtime WLS-FM personality Danny Lake from the radio station, they are bringing him back. However, instead of a full-time weekday role, Lake is returning on a part-time and freelance basis for weekends.

The 12th Annual 'Dancing With Chicago Celebrities' Taking Place Next Month
