The C.R.M. Message Board

Chicagoland's greatest and longest-running media-themed message board!

Was listening to their Dekalb station around 7 last night and then poof...all three FM's went silent and stayed that way. WCPT-AM stayed on however. Glad they were back on this morning...but am curious as to what happened which would take all three FM's silent leaving the AM OK when they're running full simulcast.

Any idea?

Nope...it took out all three FM's. Not just Dekalb. Peotone didn't have any odd weather at all.

According to a WCPT employee, there was a fire on the power line outside of the station's studio around 6:40pm Thursday night. It was most likely caused by a lightning strike. That killed the studio's ability to transmit to the FM frequencies. It took ComEd a long time to get it fixed.
